Can Arianna Help AOL Figure Out How Online Content Works?

The big news in the online media world today is that AOL plans to swallow Huffington Post for $315 million and hand over control of its entire editorial and content operations to founder Arianna Huffington. Although Om is skeptical of this deal for some very good reasons, I think it makes a lot of sense for both sides — growth has been slowing at Huffington Post, and they would likely not be able to really boost the size and scale of the site without a lot more investment. AOL, meanwhile, needs someone to take charge of its content strategy, which has been all over the map and has yet to produce substantial returns

Web Clip: Spring preview and 3 questions

Posted in Link , MetsBlog In this clip, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com presents three questions facing the Mets, as the team gets ready to hit Spring Training: In regards to second base, I buy the Adam Rubin theory that Turner is in a tough spot because he is out of options. I see no way Luis Castillo is on the Opening Day roster. So, to me, Emaus and Murphy will split time early this season at second base, with both getting at bats at other positions as well.

‘Nothing in the Constitution even remotely guarantees a right to be a free rider’

Georgetown’s David Cole has a nice essay on the legal challenges to the individual mandate: Near the end of his decision, Judge Hudson writes: “At its core, this dispute is not simply about regulating the business of insurance — or crafting a scheme of universal health insurance coverage — it’s about an individual’s right to choose to participate.” Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who brought the suit, echoed that point the day the decision came down, insisting that “this lawsuit is not about health care. It’s about liberty.” But that is exactly what the case is not about.

Motorola Xoom Ad Reveals Pricey iPad Competitor

An advertisement from Best Buy appears to show the highly anticipated Google Android 3.0-based tablet, the Motorola Xoom, with a starting price of $799.99 – or $300 more than the least expensive iPad on the market today. What’s worse, the ad also says that it requires the purchase of a data plan through Verizon Wireless, even for those who want to just use the Wi-Fi connection on the Xoom. Does this decidedly uncompetitive price point spell doom for one of the most popular gadgets from this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011)?
